Remember the Boyle
Activity Council bbq? The block party on Princess? The biggest Old East yard
sale yet? What a great summer we’ve had here in the Village!
It's time now to put that warm
glow to good use at a pair of important events coming up in September.
First is the annual general meeting of
the Old East Village Community
Association at 7 pm on Tuesday, September 11 at Lorne Avenue Public School.
This is where you can help choose the new president who’ll lead
the association through at least the next two years. The positions of treasurer and two of
the four directors-at-large are also up for election. Memberships and nominations will be accepted at the meeting.
Come out to meet your neighbours, hear
what’s happening in our community, share your views in the discussion and help
map out the road ahead.
Second, is the meeting of the Accommodation Review Committee that’s
looking at the future of Lorne Ave and three other central London schools. It
takes place at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 20 at St. George’s Public School,
782 Waterloo Street.
As many people as possible need to take advantage of the chance to
address this meeting, to make sure the committee really gets all the reasons
Lorne Ave must not be closed. If you’d like to be one of them, make your request
to speak on the form posted at www.tvdsb.ca/board.cfm?subpage=89379.
The deadline for requests is September 10.
Even
if you don’t speak, it’s important to turn out to show your support for those
who do. Lorne Ave needs the whole community behind it.
Keeping
Old East the great neighbourhood it is and making it better isn’t a job for
just a few people. Everyone who lives, works or plays here can play a
part, and one way to do so is to turn out for these two meetings.
